Chitra was born and raised in Chennai, India and she moved to the UK almost two decades ago. She lives in London, UK and travels all over the world with her books and stories. When not writing, Chitra loves cooking, reading, listening to podcasts and going on walks.
Chitra’s favourite time to write is in the mornings, right after her first cup of coffee.
Chitra Soundar is an internationally published, award-winning author of children’s books, writer of kids TV, audio and theatre. She has published over 60 books for children of all ages, across genre and format.
Her books have been nominated and shortlisted for multiple awards in the UK and US including the Kate Greenaway Medal for Illustration, Surrey Children’s Book Award and Inclusive Book Awards.
She is also the co-founder of Colourful Connections, a collective for PoC in UK Kids Media and the co-founder of SAIL Fest, UK’s first South Asian Literature Festival.
Her TV recent credits include Music Time for Netflix, Grandma Mei Stories for Audible, Music Time for Netflix, The Woohoos for Milkshake! TV. Her young fiction series Nikhil and Jay is currently airing on CBeebies. Chitra has written multiple episodes on the show and serves as one of the executive producers. Find out more here.
